Heather Shina

Hello St. Edith Parishioners! Music enhances and adds so much to the liturgy. The Sunday Choir, Music Ensemble, For God’s Glory, Children’s Choir, The Bells of St. Edith, Resurrection Choir, Cantors, Instrumentalists, Holiday Choir assist in the sung prayer of the liturgy. We gather to celebrate the Eucharist in song, share the Body and Blood of Christ, and sing praises to God. Prayerfully consider joining one of our music groups.  Remember as St. Augustine says, “Singing is praying twice.” Please see the music calendar for a listing of which group will be playing at each liturgy.

God Bless, Heather Shina- Director of Music Ministries

Sunday Choir

We invite anyone who enjoys singing to take part in our Sunday 11am Mass choir. If you love to sing and don’t have time to come every week, this your chance to sing with a great choir.  We rehearse from 10-11am in the church prior to 11am Mass.  Members of this choir range from 8th grade through seniors. Our choir is made up of individuals from every walk of life with the main interest of “Praising God in Song”. New members are always welcome. The choir begins singing the Sunday after Labor Day through the middle of May. There isn’t a weekly commitment. You may come as often as you want or as little as you would want.  The choir is directed by Heather Shina.

Music Ensemble

Music Ensemble is a group of young adults who enjoy praising and worshipping God with their special talents. It is comprised of vocalists, guitarists, and instrumentalists of all ages led by Rita Douglas. The Music Ensemble leads worship at the 5pm Sunday Mass that is scheduled once a month and will rehearse before Mass. The also lead worship at the Sunday, 11am Mass once a month.  That rehearsal will be from 7-9pm in the music room the Wednesday prior to the Sunday, 11am Mass they are scheduled to sing at. Vocalists and instrumentalists starting from junior high and up are welcome to participate. The Music Ensemble incorporates a blend of traditional hymns with praise and worship music.

For God’s Glory

This group gears to encourage any musical young adult starting from 8th grade. Instrumentalists and vocalists are both welcome. The music sung is a blend of traditional hymns with praise and worship.  Come share your talents and enjoy participating in liturgy. This group sings at the 5pm Saturday Mass every week with Heather. Rehearsals are 40 minutes before Mass. We are in need of guitarists.

Children’s Choir

Members of the Children’s Choir are in grades 2nd through 8th. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 6-7pm in the Music room. The Children’s choir is directed by Mona Mason. The Children’s choir season will begin on the first Tuesday of October and end the Tuesday of Holy Week. The children sing four times during the church year, one Mass in November, the 4pm Mass on Christmas Eve, one Mass in February, and at the 11am Mass on Palm Sunday.

The Bells of St. Edith

Participation in this choir is open to people of all ages including children and adults. Being able to read music is not a requirement. Just knowing your colors and how to count to 12 in the only prerequisite.  Becoming part of this choir will help to open the door of musical expression to those who never thought they would have the opportunity to make music. Commitment is a key ingredient where each ringer plays a number of bells, which no one else in the choir plays. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 5:30-7pm in the Music Room. The Handbell choir rehearses on Wednesdays from September through December to prepare for Christmas and February through the middle of May to prepare for Easter and First Communion.  The Handbell choir is directed by Heather Shina.

Resurrection Choir

Members of the Resurrection Choir are those who are able to share their voices to support the singing for the bereaved of our parish community at parish funerals. Anyone who has mornings available for this beautiful ministry are encouraged to be part of this great team of parishioners. Rehearsals are held on the day of the funeral 30 minutes prior to the liturgy in the Music room or the chapel. You will be notified the details of the funeral by email. There isn’t a commitment. You may come as often as you want or as little as you would want.

Cantors

The Cantors role is to encourage the congregation to sing the hymns and Mass parts and to lead the sung prayer of the Responsorial Psalm from the lectern. Cantors at St. Edith must belong to one of our music ministries in order to be involved.

Instrumentalists

St. Edith welcomes anyone who has played a musical instrument for over two years to play along with one of our music groups. We welcome pianist to play prelude music for 10 minutes prior to the beginning of Mass.

Holiday Choir

The Holiday choir sings at the Christmas Concert, Christmas Eve Midnight Mass, the concert before midnight Mass, Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, and Easter Vigil.  Participation in this choir ranges from 8th grade through seniors.  The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings in the Music room from 7-9pm October-December to prepare for Christmas and February-April to prepare for Easter. New members are always welcome. The choir is directed by Heather Shina.
