Safe Environment

Getting Involved

Volunteering at St. Edith Catholic Church and School can be a rewarding experience – both for you and for those you serve. There are many opportunities to get involved in our parish community, whether you are interested in serviing others, sharing your talents, or becoming more active in parish life.

Take a look at our many parish groups and ministries and find one that matches your talents and passions. You'll be glad you did!

Before You Volunteer

To help ensure the safety and well-being of our children, youth, and vulnerable members of our community, all parish volunteers must meet the Archdiocese of Detroit's Safe Environment requirements.

Volunteers will need:

Archdiocese of Detroit: Protect • Prevent • Heal

The Archdiocese of Detroit (AOD), through its Office of Child and Youth Protection, continues to strengthen its Safe Environment policies and procedures. These requirements are designed to enhance our efforts to protect children and young people, prevent abuse, and promote healing within our communities.

Protecting God's Children

NEW REGISTRANTS

If you have never completed Protecting God's Children, visit protect.aod.org and select "Register for Protecting God's Children - First Time Registrants."

You will be directed to VIRTUS, where you will create an account. Be sure to carefully review and confirm ALL of your information before finalizing your registration. Once your account has been created, you will be directed to the appropriate class you are required to complete.

If you do not have access to a laptop with a webcam, please contact the Religious Education Department. We can assist you with registration and help you make arrangements to complete the required class, including by Zoom when available.

Recertification

Protecting God's Children certification must be renewed every three years. Registered VIRTUS account holders who are due for recertification, as well as those who need to complete the Mandated Reporter module, will receive an email from the VIRTUS system with instructions.

Simply log in to your VIRTUS account. You will be directed to the appropriate online, self-paced module or modules required for your certification.

Keeping your Safe Environment requirements current is an important part of serviing our parish and helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone.
