Al Rivard

I have been a member of St. Edith since 1988, when I moved to Livonia from Detroit.  I started as a Eucharistic Minister back in 1991. I am a 3rd Degree Knight, with the St. Edith Knights of Columbus council.  I have never been married, came close a few times though.  I like playing pool, was a member of a couple billiard leagues.  I used to drag race for a little more than 12 years, which included drag strips, at different tracks,  and street drag, where you pull up to a light and challenge someone to a race.

I enjoy being a part of the Woriship Commission, because of the members and the conversations that we have.  The guidance of the faith for the parish to continue to make St. Edith strong and welcoming.  It is also nice to contribute to the various events through the liturgical year. We have a good group of people led by Fr. Jim.  I truly enjoy helping people, which is one reason why I have the home ministry, where I take the Eucharist to both Newburgh Village, and Beaumont commons for over ten years.

St. Edith has gone through some issues over the years, but it has remained strong.  St. Edith has always been a welcoming parish, which has been greatly enhanced by Fr. Jim McNulty.  I always had the sense of being a part of the family here at St. Edith, by the welcoming nature of the parishioners over the years.  Some people may remember Barbara LaPenta, who was the person who trained me as a Eucharistic Minister, initially by saying, would you mind helping me, then telling me that you are for volunteering to help during Mass.  I have used that approach a couple of times myself. Fr. Jim has made such magnificent changes to St. Edith over the years.  It now is such a welcoming parish, with a family focus. Fr. Jim's warm and charismatic charm has transformed this parish into a warm and welcoming place for all.
