Children's Liturgy

During the 11:00 Sunday morning Mass, children are dismissed before the readings to listen to the Word of God on their level and to talk about the readings. Children from kindergarten to 5th grade are invited to participate.

Preschool

Children ages 2-4 are invited to come to our pre-school program during the 11:00 Mass on Sundays. It is for the full hour. They learn about Jesus and his love for them. They also learn how to play together, share and to be comfortable in a church setting. Each week they go home with something concrete in their hands that they have made. Registration is required. Cost: $65.00 for the school year.

Kindergarten - 6th Grade

Kindergarten through 6th grade is offered on Monday or Tuesday from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. We use the text called "Faith First." It is an up to date, certified text for teaching religion and making it come alive for our children. Registration is required for the 2010-2011 program. Please complete the above registration form and return with payment to the Religious Formation office. If you have any questions, please contact our office at (734) 464-2020.

7th Grade

7th Grade is offered only on Mondays from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. The students study the New Testament and begin the preparation for Confirmation. We try and make their faith journey appropriate for them and also to take it out of the classroom into a more informal setting.

8th Grade - Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is made in 8th grade at St. Edith. It requires a year preparation, but it is done in five sessions, lasting 2 1/2 hours each. Classes are held on Mondays from 6:30 - 9:00 pm. The classes are done in a large group with the school students and the Religious Formation students. The goal is to have the students feel a part of the parish and to unite them before they enter high school. They receive a book, a Bible and a journal.

Family Program

Along with the formation classes offered to our children, the parish offers an intergenerational program that gives families an opportunity to learn about their faith together. The program is held four times a year. It starts with dinner The topic is usually one that everyone can relate to and the teaching is done in age appropriate groups. This program gives families a chance to be learning the same things about the Catholic Faith.

Children's Catechumenate

If a child reaches the age of 7 and has never been baptized or received the other sacraments, they are given an opportunity, like the adults to study the Catholic Faith on their level and make a decision at Easter to be baptized or not. Instruction, discernment and decision is just as important for a child as an adult.
